Success Stories
Emigdio
In hopes of leaving construction and pursuing a cooking career, Emigdio enrolled in the two week Vocational English course at HI-Demand. He continued training at the Culinary Training Academy as a Kitchen Worker and then immediately entered Cook's Helper training. His ambition and dedication paid off as he was hired as a Pantry Person at a major strip property, a step ABOVE his goal of Cook's Helper.
Mgdalena
Magdalena registered in the Vocational English Program with the goal of gaining a stable position in the hospitality industry. She immediately took advantage of the Job Readiness Workshop where she practiced her interview technique. The practice paid off. Before the end of her two week course, a major Hotel had hired her as a Guest Room Attendant. "At my last interview experience," she explained, "I couldn't answer anything. After practicing the interview, I was more sure of myself. The practice is very good and very important." She is currently looking to enroll at the Site 3 classes offered at the hotel she is working in.
Piotro
Piotro was a bus person at a union property. He received upgrade training at the Culinary Training Academy and was promoted to a food server. He came back to CTA, completed the certified wine server training, and was promoted to a gourmet room. Finally, he took the certified sommelier course and is now working as a Sommelier at high end strip property.v
Erania
Erania completed Kitchen Worker training in 2003 and then enrolled at the Culinary Union where she was sent to work on many temporary jobs in the hotels as a Kitchen Worker and Guest Room Attendant. During this time, she gained much experience in the hotels and improved her English greatly. She also discovered that she preferred the GRA work and returned to the Culinary Training Academy in the fall of 2004 to take Guest Room Attendant training. She attended classes with the HI-Demand Program and eventually received job referral assistance through the Job Club. In January 2005, she was hired at a major strip property as a Guest Room Attendant and will most likely enroll in the Vocational English classes at the Culinary Union.
Aurelio
While working as a Laundry Specialist at a major strip property, Aurelio decided to move up to a new position at this resort and casino. He successfully completed the Vocational English I class, and when he discovered a level II class being held at a different location, he traveled across town after work to attend. A highly motivated student, Aurelio enrolled in the Culinary Training Academy while a student in the Vocational English II course and is currently in line for a PROMOTION.
