REACH
This program was developed at the direction of both labor and management who have a strong interest in increasing the number of African-American, Hispanic and other workers of color in higher paying classifications in the Las Vegas hospitality sector.
REACH is offered to all incumbent workers in participating properties. Workers must complete a written application and oral interview process to be eligible for the program. Once accepted, students are taught subjects such as business writing, customer service, time management, goal setting, public speaking, legal compliance, diversity, coaching, problem solving and managing conflict, all of which increase the opportunity for career advancement and leadership development.
Classes are taught on property (in the workplace) after work hours, and classroom instruction is supplemented by mentorship and job coaching from senior workers, supervisors and upper management.
Five REACH classes have graduated since the program's inception. The program's success is clear: already 71% of program graduates have been promoted into higher paying positions.
